[ Ugh. Insufferable. Now Kurapikaโs entire day is ruined (not really).
He finishes his meal and heads back to class, immediately retiring to their shared room when heโs done for the day. By the time Oria gets back to the dorm, Kurapika is sitting at his desk carefully working on assignments. Heโs so focused that he doesnโt even pay attention to the door opening, much less acknowledging his roommate. ]
[ Oria is surprisingly considerate when he wants to be, which is when he sees Kurapika focusing on something so intensely that he doesn't use his usual obnoxious and loud greeting upon entry. He closes the door as quietly as he can behind him and does everything else as quiet as possible, like putting his bag down, getting his tablet out with bluetooth headphones...
This guy isn't usually nice. He's not really all that charitable either and runs on selfish impulses and desires. That's why it might be strange when Oria puts a small cake box on the edge of Kurapika's desk to not be a bother. It has a slice of perfectly normal (real) chantily cake with a plastic fork. Oria quickly returns to his own desk to settle down and do his own thing. ]
[ Kurapika is appreciative of the quiet as he tries to solve a problem in his workbook, the sound of his pen scratching against his paper the only real sound in their shared room. That stops, however, the moment Oria sets down a little box on Kurapika's desk, and he eyes it with suspicion.
He quickly gets over himself, though, and drags the box towards him as he opens it up to take a peek. Kurapika's eyes widen when he realizes that inside is a cute little slice of cake.
[ Fortunately for everyone involved, it's a normal chantily cake. No pranks or anything. It has the right balance of sweet and nonsweet, topped off with some fresh fruits of orange, kiwis, strawberries and blueberries. The bread is light and airy with a hint of vanilla and the cream feels like it would melt on your tongue. ]
Yeah? Why would I waste an opportunity if it's right there? Free cake!
[ He makes it seem so impersonal, but. He did get it for him nonetheless. ]
It's hard not to dislike this particular cake either.
There's no need to act so impersonal about it. You got it for me when you could have given it to one of your friends.
[ And surely someone like Oria has friends here already. He very much seems like the type to make them quickly.
He takes a bite then, letting the airiness of the cake sit on his tongue, the fruity flavor that's soaked into the bread itself adding to the softness of the cream. ]
Oria slowly blinks. He's called out and isn't sure how to feel about it. It's not particularly a bad thing either, but he didn't expect it so soon, so quickly. ]
[ He swivels his desk chair around so he can face Oria as he takes another bite of cake. A silence passes between them as he takes his sweet time chewing it.
His eyes land on Oria's own cake box, but he says nothing about it. ]
I'll go with you to pet the dogs since you're so desperate for company.
[ That's not what this cake is about, Kurapika is sure, but he might as well extend his own little olive branch too.
[ Oria looks at Kurapika for a moment before sitting down on his own chair, spinning in it once, and then away from him by facing his own desk instead.
[ With a huff, Kurapika wheels himself back to his desk, silently eating his cake.
...It really is good and he's kind of mad about it. Does this mean Oria has good taste? That he's good at picking things out? Kind of fucked up, really. ]
[ Only if Oria knew, then he'd be like "why you so mad. it's cake??". Alas. He doesn't really do anything noteworthy for the night other than playing games on his phone with headphones on and using his tablet to chat with other people.
Over the next week, Oria will learn that Kurapika is a pretty quiet roommate. He doesn't let his alarm go off for more than a few seconds, he doesn't take long in the shower, and he doesn't try to encroach on Oria's space. Most of his free time is spent reading or out of the room doing... whatever it is he's doing. Once, he doesn't come back at all during the night, only to show back up in their room after lunch, studying at his desk like he wasn't gone before.
Wednesday has been like normal, Kurapika waking up early in the morning for class and heading off to spend most of the day outside of their room. It's only when it's close to the time that Oria suggested they go look at the dogs that he swings by so they can walk to the greens together.
And there are a lot of students already there, along with a lot of dogs of all sizes. Puppies flop around all over one another while bigger dogs jump on students and nearly push them over. ]
[ Since Kurapika is usually the one who leaves first and returns the latest, he doesn't get to see Oria do much other than sleep. He's usually out during daytime hours, so they end up missing each other a lot.
But of course, since they pretty much made time to go to see the dogs together, Oria meets up with Kurapika to go together. ]
People are gonna flock to dogs. They love them.
[ Oria looks at how crowded it is. Damn. He says that, but even he's surprised at the turn out. ]
What kind of dog do you wanna be with?
[ Despite being the one who suggested the idea, Oria seems pretty neutral on dogs as opposed to many people looking ecstatic when they see one pass by. ]
[ Kurapika doesn't answer, instead letting a German Shepherd puppy waddle right up to him, and he kneels down to pet it. It seems like this one is just fine for him, because he has no problem petting the puppy, scratching behind its ears and then its belly when it flops onto the grass and then on its back. ]
Are you not a fan of dogs?

[ Hmph!!! Heโs totally not pouting here, and he tries to hide it by having a bite of pizza. ]

3 PM next Wednesday! Don't forget!

There was a BOGO event!

[ He's... kind of touched, actually? Kurapika gingerly takes the plastic fork and grabs a bite of the cake, putting it to his lips. ]

I'm not desperate for company, and I'm only going because you seriously need to relax.

I don't wanna hear that from someone who just pushed my chair with his foot! You wanna play footsie??
