[ G'raha watches as Aki unceremoniously fishes (heh) out some gear from his bag, wondering if he should go fetch his own. While he isn't particularly skilled in the realm of fishing, he figured he should give it the old college try just in case...
But that segue is very much concerning. ]
Skirmish? Do you intend to catch something particularly fiery?
Things are calm now, so maybe this'll be a good chance to refresh your memory.
[ His tone is a little lighter; he's not taking this so seriously. He gets ready to cast his line; the waters are calm, which will make this easier. And if he catches something unruly, well, better to have a stable boat than one that's rocking around.
He glances to the side, towards G'raha. Is he good or does Aki need to give him a hand... ]
[ He’s… surprisingly good! There’s a little bit of fumbling around when it comes to attaching the bait to the line, his movements unpracticed. But he manages on his own, casting the line without much issue. With a little dip, it lands in the water. ]
Rare were the opportunities to fish in earnest in Sharlayan. Counterintuitive to its location on the sea, I know, but I had my nose buried in tomes more often than not.
[ His eyes are on G'raha, curious when he talks about his tomes. It's not surprising, given that G'raha's line of work and all, but something about Aki's demeanor relaxes a little more, matching the more casual tone of the conversation. ]
Sounds like you were born to be a scholar. [ He'll pay attention to the rod if something bites. ] The person I trained under is also an avid reader. She's only interested in certain topics, though, and would rather be efficient in her studies than bother reading up on things she doesn't find interesting.
[ Idly, he wonders if Makima's ever studied there - if she's even from there. There's so much about her that he doesn't know. It unnerves him but it also makes him want to know more, and if she were to pursue her interests without limit, maybe...just maybe she'd be that much more powerful.
Not that he's in any place to tell her that. She mentored him, after all. ]
You do strike me as someone who has no limit in your pursuit of knowledge. [ Which he finds respectable. ] Are you the type who wants to learn about anything and everything?
If presented the opportunity... certainly. Though my thirst for knowledge isn't quite so voracious, unlike that of a number of my other comrades.
[ Y'Shtola, for one. There would likely be few lines she wouldn't cross in the pursuit of something she wanted or found particularly tantalizing. Her lack of fear for the consequences of it—which she would undoubtedly take responsibility for—it both impressive and terrifying.
G'raha, on the other hand, isn't like that. ]
I have a particular area of knowledge that I prefer to keep to, namely ancient arcane magicks.

Then I shall fulfill whatever role you may need in any upcoming skirmishes, whether that be a shield or mending your wounds.

He nods towards G'raha, appreciative. ]
Thank you.
[ And after a momentary pause, he starts reaching into his supplies and pulls out two things: A fishing rod, and some ocean bait. It's Time. ]
The only skirmish we should worry about for now involves fishing.

I may as well kill some time.
[ He hooks on some bait, and then he reaches in with one hand and holds out some bait towards G'raha. ]

I must confess that it has been a long while since I have cast a line into the water.

[ He smiles at Aki, chancing a glance over at him while his line doesn't move. ]
'Tis one of the reasons I am glad to call myself a citizen of Sharlayan—many are allowed to pursue their interests without limit.
